I saw Oakmont of Escondido Hills. It was a really good tour, super detailed, informative, so it was really helpful. The staff member was excellent. He was very thorough and gave a lot of good information. It was really good. They have a pool, and a gym where they can do physical therapy, or the residents can just use the equipment. They have activities rooms they have, multiple kinds of seating areas throughout. They provide laundry service, but for residents, if they prefer they can also do their own. They do little field trips locally to Trader Joe's or wherever. Some of the residents have pets. I saw a few dogs. They sent us home with an apple pie, it was very good.

We chose Oakmont of Escondido Hills for mom and proximity was the biggest thing. They were about five minutes from my house. The second thing was the level of care. She only needs a very small amount of care because she's young and she's showing signs of dementia. They offer senior living (where it's just unassisted care) with access to the cafeteria and other facilities up to memory care and kind of everything in between. As she gets worse, they'll increase the level of care until she gets to the point where she qualifies for memory care and they'll move her to that section of the building.
There are quite a few residents there, so she'll have an opportunity to engage with and interact with a bunch of different people instead of just a small amount at a smaller facility. Because she's so young and because she's still capable, we wanted a place where there's a lot of residents, somewhere close by, somewhere that had a progressive level of care that would increase as she needs it, and then also with the ability for her to be removed and visit us as needed or desired. Those are kind of our basic things and this place met all those things, plus proximity, which makes it very easy for all of us to go visit her.
They have really good reviews and they have a nice facility. Nobody's perfect, but they did a good job. There's plenty of people there, and they were all very welcoming and supportive. There's a lot of amenities there. They had barber service, they had a dentist and doctors that show up, and they have a theater. They've got a bunch of staff there that are supporting all that, so it seemed like it was sufficient. The ratio of people was good.
They do one large thing every month, like a big luau or party or some kind of event for the whole compound at the senior living as well as the assisted living. They've got multiple activities daily. They've got field trips, people coming in for history lessons and different presentations, they've got bingo and game card nights, a movie theater, a gym, and a pool. It's a lot of money, but it seems to be similar to what other parts of the country are. I feel like they offer quite a bit as compared to some of the other facilities that are a little bit smaller that are charging similar amounts.

Oakmont of Escondido Hills was a lovely community. They seemed to have a lot of services, and they were able to fit their clients through every level of care. They were able to take good care of them, not only physically but recreationally. They had in-house speech therapy and occupational therapy, but what I liked the most was the variety of living scenarios for the individuals. You could go from an independent living casita with your own garage to full-time care. I've never been to another place where people can have their own middle home with their garage on campus, to 2-bedroom apartments, 1-bedroom apartments, studio apartments, shared apartment, assisted living, and to a nursing home care.
The staff also seemed knowledgeable and kind. It seemed pricey, but all of these communities are. We went there on a holiday and saw the staff interacting with a client with a balloon and a racket, and I thought it was great. The halls weren't just quiet halls or doors closed, there was interaction between the staff and the resident, whether they needed physical therapy, range of motion, or some kind of stimulation. Seeing them working with the residents in the hall was awesome.

I like the whole facility. The staff was accommodating. They have all kinds of things like classes, library, outings, a nice patio, and a meeting area. Oakmont of Escondido Hills had a lot of things to offer.

Oakmont of Escondido Hills was very nice, and new. It's very clean, and it seemed as though they have the staffing there to take care of the people. They had a library. The rooms were pretty nice, but a little small but probably good for the type of situation that they're trying to handle.

The staff at Oakmont of Escondido Hills was extremely friendly. They greeted us and when we were walking around, you could see them talking with the residents. When my mom got tired of walking, the girl giving us the tour got her a wheelchair and helped her upstairs. The genuine care is very interesting; it was pretty obvious. When we first walked in, there were a lot of residents in chairs either sleeping or drooling or slouching, and they didn’t look like they were happy. They looked bored; there wasn't any interaction with each other happening.

The only thing that I didn’t like for the memory unit was like a time served for when the patients get up at night, and they weren’t located in an area where they could be notified right away because of where they were set up in the room; if the patient were to fall they wouldn’t notice or they won’t know. Probably more caregivers and clearer as far as what they are going to charge as the patient declines. The grounds were very pretty, so that would be the standout of it.

Oakmont of Escondido Hills was a newer facility, really nice, large, and had lots of activities. They had monthly events. They gave me a cherry pie, which is my favorite dessert. The price was right in the middle. It wasn't too high, wasn't low, but it was very reasonable for what they offered. Out of all the directors that we spoke to, I felt like they really cared. They had exercise classes and art classes, and they do special events, like a farm day in the summer, animals come, out and they do a petting zoo. They also do family events where they have an open house where the families can come and enjoy. They do a circus day and fun things that are enjoyable for everybody. They're perfect. If I were to put my mom anywhere, that would be the place we would take her to.

The part that struck us the best on Oakmont of Escondido Hills was the remodeling that they had just completed. It was very attractive, very bright, and cheery. That was very, very nice. They didn’t have anyone that wasn’t friendly and helpful. It seemed like they had very happy and content people. The dining room was very similar to all dining rooms. The food was very good, but it wasn’t exceptional. The rooms were larger than any of the others. The only reason we didn’t consider this as the main one was simply because it seemed like there were too many people there. However, I would recommend this facility.
