I would not put my mother at Glen Park at Valley Village. It's more of a low-income facility. They have private baths, which is good. The rooms were average, but nothing super nice. The neighborhood wasn't very nice, so I didn't like that. The dining area felt like an average cafeteria style setting and it was a bit institutional. They had a reading room with books and some games. It just felt like a very no frills type facility.

With an anniversary of sorts coming up, as a resident of this facility, I need to state publicly that this establishment has effectively "saved my life". With a myriad of physical problems (numerous surgeries, etc) I have been taken care of at a high level. Contrary to stories about this establishment one particular visitor couldn't be more wrong in their assessment. I've read about how LCRC is dirty, low quality of food and care, etc. and after residing there for 4+ years I can declare that the remarks are totally false and honestly would be funny if it weren't so ridiculous. To go so far as to say they wouldn't let there pet live there, I just don't understand how someone can be so emphatically negative that LCRC is such a horrible place after a ten minute walk through. If you or a loved one needs assisted living, for whatever reason, I strongly recommend (LCRC) now known as Glen Park at Valley Village for various levels of care for you or someone you love. Go see for yourself and I think you will agree.

Margo's is owned and administrated by two sisters, Susan and Judy, who proved to me, over a period of two years, their 'genuine' concern and profound knowledge of geriatrics care in all of its aspects. I helped Rose, my mother-in-law, at least twice per week with all of her errands and personal issues while she resided at Margo's for the two year period. Susan ran the administrative office with an open door policy for all residents and family members. Judy was the hands-on facilitator between the staff and the residents on a daily basis. Judy, many times, filled me in on issues that were taking place with Rose on those days that I was not visiting and would always have a smile, a kind heart, and a suggestion about how I might help to make Rose's time at Margo's more pleasant. I became very fond of the sisters and the staff members at Margo's. The facility was always clean (there was never an odor). The residents were encouraged to take the free class in exercise and doctor visits to the residents were quite regular. The dining area was spacious and well lit by the floor to ceiling windows and there was a rear yard with grass and trees and beyond that a parking lot for residents and family members. Margo's is not so institutional in its care approach as it is intimate and warm.

I wouldn't allow an injured animal to live at Laurel Canyon retirement!! Roaches, no activities, depressing interior, staff are nightmarish and non caring, food is nearly inedible, and the owner is non responsive to requests for assistance or guidance. I would NOT recommend allowing any human to reside in this facility!
