Meridian Gardens of Riverside was very open, welcoming, and very pleasant; however, it did not seem to meet up with the requirements that I was wanting. The dining area seemed to be clean. The people seemed to be happy and content there. The staff was very pleasant. They gave me a lovely tour and talked about the activities available. Even though they had activities available, it didn't seem like they were as accessible.

I really like Meridian Gardens. It is nice. The people are knowledgeable and passionate, and they care. My mom has been there since January. The grounds are really nice. They have a garden area. My mom is in the memory care, and they have two versions of memory care. One is for more severe like my mother, and one is for the less severe. So even though it is a close campus, the ones that are less severe can go out of their room right into the garden area, which is beautiful. My mom's case is a little more severe, and she needs assistance going out. Their area goes out into a smaller garden, but they have to be taken out or accompanied. The part that my mom is in has two to a room; some people have a private room. Their rooms opened up into a common area. They do the laundry. They provide for the food, and they do the bathing. They have three meals a day, and they also have two snacks. They do have activities on campus. They have a calendar that tells the activities as well as the meals that they are serving. They send calendars and newsletters to the family, and they basically encourage the families to participate. They do have a family members meeting for us to speak on our parents behalf because a lot of them are not able to speak on their own. The only negative that I will give them is that, they just need a few more staff at a certain peak hours. However, they are really good.

When I first visited Meridian, it was Arlington Commons then, and my first impression of it was that it was good. Meridian just bought it last year. My mother was there for five years before she passed away. She was well cared for. They loved her. They took care of my mom. They were very patient because we were private paying for my mom. However, right now, my family is a little upset with them, and it is just because of one person – the secretary. My mother passed away on the 30th and the rent was due on 1st. When I called the day after my mom passed to find out what I needed to pay if anything, the secretary didn't say, "I’m sorry Nancy," she didn't say anything, it was just about the money. She said, "As long as her personal belonging are in that room there, I'll have to charge her rent." My mom just passed away the day before in the hospital, and she said that. I was just shocked. You're going through something like that, and they're expecting you to dash over. To me, Meridian is into the money thing. They emphasized different things. However, the caregivers I would give a top rating.
