I have been in Merrill Gardens for three years now. It's quite expensive. It's a nice place, and the people are good, so I'm not complaining about that part. I've not been allowed to get out of here for a year now, so I sold my car because I couldn't drive it. I was paying $100 a month for parking here, so now I don't even have a car, but I couldn't take it out anyway. The management here is pretty good. They're doing everything they can to keep us from dying, but it is frustrating because I have had my nose checked fifteen times now. We're not doing any of the activities because of this disease thing. We had exercises every day and various things, but they stopped them here last month. It's been pretty good. Food varies. I don't know if they have different cooks or what, and some people get very disgusted with it, but to me, I just put up with it and throw it out if I don't like it. The facilities here are great and top notch. I don't know if you can beat this place for the class. It's a very nice facility, and they have just about everything you could want, but we just haven't been able to use them since March of last year. We have a shelf full of books, so that's the library, and there are probably 100 books in there. They have a room that they use for a chapel, too. Well, I had to get a room near the elevator because I can't walk that far, and my room went up from $5600 to $6800 and that's killing me. I have plenty of money, so that's not bad.

My aunt is under assisted living at Merrill Gardens at Huntington Beach because she is kind of dingy and needs help with her medication. Their price seems to be comparable with all the other ones I’ve looked at. I like the place. It is very new and very bright, and it is one of the only two that I saw that had washers in the room. It is like a hotel. If you want to sit in the lobby, you can go down and sit in the lobby and see people. You are not so isolated where you are stuck in an apartment, and you don’t have any contact with anybody.

Merrill Gardens was new, very clean, and spacious inside. There wasn't much outdoor space. The tour was wonderful, and the guide spent a lot of time answering questions about moving my mom and how to convince her to move. It looked quiet. The activities looked great, and they even had a social happy hour in the late afternoon. There was a wide range of elderly: some were very independent, very mobile, and some were in wheelchairs. The food was very good. They had primarily studio rooms, and a limited number of small private ones, which were less expensive.

I got interested in Merrill Gardens at Huntington Beach because when I walked in, it felt like I was home. They serve meals any time of the day from 7 in the morning to 7 p.m., which I like. I do not like to be regulated to eat between certain hours per meal. The second thing is, it has a washer-dryer in every room. I like that. The reason I picked it is because of the dinner hours.

Merrill Gardens at Huntington Beach was a more modern, brand-new, extremely clean facility, but it didn't feel like home. The staff was nice. The rooms were very nice because eveything was new. It was a much nicer facility, but it felt cold to me.

Merill Gardens is probably the best facility in terms of it was the nearest. I loved their common area and the Happy Hour that they had for their clients with mobility. My father-in-law would have really enjoyed that and could have made good friends there. The staff seemed fine, caring, involved and engaged, and knew their residents. I liked it. Merrill Gardens is brand new, beautiful, and fabulous with nothing to improve upon.

I looked at Merrill Gardens. I liked that it was new and clean. The nurse and the girl who helped us were very attentive and tried to help us get my stepdad into the place. They had social events and amenities like a workout room and activities for him to do.

I visited Merrill Gardens. Everyone was very friendly. The activities were wonderful. The dining room was beautiful. You can eat there anytime of the day. You order from a menu, there are no set times for meals and there are three meals a day.

My father has been at Merrill for almost a year. We couldn't be happier. Staff is great. Food is terrific. Accommodations are very nice. The residents really look out for each other and it feels like a community. We researched a lot of facilities before landing here, and we are so glad we did. Thank you to all the staff that work so hard to accommodate a lot of demanding residents.

My experience was very good. It's a little less expensive, but a little less personal. It seemed a little more sterile of an environment. The dining room was very nice looking. Merrill Gardens seemed almost like an apartment complex or a hotel. The facility was very new and just built recently. They only opened the memory care unit the year before. They had activities, but it didn't seem as cohesive of a community. It was a nice place, but it wasn't quite what we were looking for, for my dad. It didn't seem like they would keep a good eye on him or get him engaged in activities. It was for a more independent person who valued their privacy and kind of wanted a more low-key atmosphere.
