I toured Epworth Village Retirement Community. Overall, as far as the facility itself, it was probably a five. It just wasn't quite a good fit for my father. They had several activities. The place was clean. I didn't taste the food, but they deliver food to the rooms or you can come to the dining.
The drawback for me on that was most of the residents only speak Spanish, and my dad only speaks English. If he was there, as far as his interaction, it would be difficult.
They had a library, a weight room, several areas for activities, and one looked like a big banquet hall (where if they wanted to do a program or have all the residents come in, that could fit a few hundred people in there). They had another activity area and a hair salon for both genders.

I toured Epworth Village Retirement Community. It was nice. They had every amenity, and they were affordable. They have dining and activities, and there's a beauty salon. The staff who accommodated me were super nice. The dining area was very nice. They had tablecloths on all the tables. The room was a large one-bedroom, and it was nice, and it was all tiled. The community is open, but they were remodeling this apartment. Upkeep was very nice. You can tell it was clean, and they kept all the garden areas manicured. It's in a nice area.

We looked into Epworth Village Retirement Community. They have four different sections. You can be independent living or assisted living. They also have one for people that need care for 24 hours or round-the-clock. The tour was very nice, it's a very nice place, a nice facility, and the people over there were very courteous. Martha was the person I talked to. She's very nice. Naturally, in the area that they're in, they have Spanish people. They're bilingual.
They have a nice dining room. They have nice facilities, and they're just right next to the shopping center, so they're within walking distance. There's a Sedano's food market right across the street, if you wanted to go across the street with some food. There was also a gym right around the corner and right across the street as well, which takes SilverSneakers. Those are pretty good advantages for being there. They have a religious place. You have your Sunday services right there on campus. It's not Jewish or anything, but it's Baptist or Methodist. They have a couple of little places where you can read books, do crafts, and things like that.
Don't Even Think About It
Based on the monthly fees charged at this facility --$3,000 per month, you would expect better quality of care, better service, better response time, better nursing/support staff, professional and responsive administrators that show care, compassion, and humanity. No, you will not find this at Epworth Village Retirement Community. I placed my mother who has mild dementia in this facility for a year. There is high turnover in the support staff, so residents would often see new people providing assistance for their activities of daily living. The lack of continuity created some confusion for my mother as it would occur with anyone suffering from dementia. I approached the nursing staff with this concern, the response was: "you must get someone to care for your mother privately." The support staff shared that salaries are at $8.00 per hour and staff leave for better opportunities. Bi-lingual staff is hard to find, although most of their residents only speak Spanish. The training the staff receives to care for a population with dementia only meets the minimum requirements. Many staff members do not completely understand the specific challenges that individuals with dementia face on a daily basis. They assume the residents with mild cognitive impairment function like everyone else. Three or four hours can go by without the residents receiving a visit from staff members who are supposed to check-in on each resident every two hours. Residents are expected to follow the schedule of activities and plan accordingly without daily assistance. This facility does not have the trained staff or the programs in place to provide quality care to anyone with any degree of cognitive impairment. I encourage you to find a better facility for your loved one.

My mother is in Epworth Village. It's fine, but some of the people that work there are not that charismatic and have a bad attitude. It depends on who is taking care of her. The place is really clean and I like it, but the service is not fast. She needs her diaper to be changed and we have to wait for two hours. We have to be calling all day long just to make sure they do what they have to do. They have a lot of activities like bingo and movies. The dining room is fine, but it's almost like the same kind of food every time I go. Most of the people that live there speak Spanish, but most of the personnel just speak English. It's really difficult for my mother because she cannot communicate with the staff, and we have to translate all the time. It would be helpful if they're bilingual.

I went to Epworth a couple of times because I had a friend there. I didn't like it too much, and it seemed like a hospital to me. The rooms were OK, but not as nice; it needed painting and cleaning, but my friend seemed to be happy there. I know they had a social hour, they served the meals, and they had a little piano bar. They had a nice chapel, they had people come there once in a while, and they had a nice religious service there.

I chose Epworth Village Retirement Community for my mother. When we walked in, they treated us well. I noticed how the caretakers were treating the tenants who seemed to be happy and relaxed. The apartments are really nice and recently remodeled. She's making good friends and is really happy there. They have bingo, trips to casinos, and art classes. There's a person that plays the piano every afternoon so they can sing. There was one new caretaker who wouldn’t let us take my mom's walker inside the restaurant but there were other walkers in there and she literally chased my mom and grabbed the cart away from her. So I reported that, and my mom said the next time she saw the person, she was really nice to her. They do well, but you have to keep an eye on them.

My parents are at Epworth Village. It is reasonably priced. Everyone I’ve dealt with has been very polite and very helpful. It is well managed and well maintained. It is an older facility, but you can tell it is kept up. My parents have only been there for eight weeks as of yesterday, and they like it. They love the food, too. They have a chapel there as well as bingo, exercise, and art classes.

I found Epworth Village for my aunt and her husband. They take care of them very well. The people there are very kind. They treat them in a very lovely way. The facility has a lot of community activities. It has 24-hour nurses. They have three meals with good food
They have games like bingo and movies in Spanish and English. They take them to the shopping center, the bank, the mall, and restaurants. They have a library, internet, and chapel. I am very happy with the services in their facility.

I searched for a suitable ALF for my 94 y/o mom and kept coming back to Epworth. One of the few facilities I found in the county where she has her own apartment and can take her furniture. The aides have been wonderful. She has daily assistance with bathing and her medication is administered right on time. The only negative is that the food is a bit bland, but since low salt diets are almost standard for the elderly, I can understand. Any questions/concerns have been answered right away. I feel at peace knowing she is there and recommend the facility.

My mom was at the independent living facility at Epworth Village and then she moved to their assisted living. The facility is very nice. It's excellent. They have lots of activities. They served three meals a day. You have your apartment and if you're in the assisted living, they have nurses that come every couple of hours to check on the patients. It's very nice. They have arts and crafts, bingo, cards, and musical during the day. There are a lot of activities and everybody was very friendly.

My aunt lived there for 3 years and loved it. She made many friends there and took part of the knitting classes and parties that they had there to celebrate monthly birthdays, and other holidays. She always raved about how great the food was and her apartment was always clean. She was very happy there till she died and now my uncle also lives there and even though he is anti-social and doesn't partake in any of the many activities that they offer there, he is very happy there.

I was very happy with the visit that we had. One of their social workers gave us a tour. She was very informative. The place looked really clean and very well organized. It's a big facility and I was really surprised with how big it is. They also have tier level facilities there. I thought it was a really nice place.
My uncle seem to be happy there. He was living on his own and he came to the realization that he needed something a little bit more than the one he had, so this gives him a lot of stability. He's very comfortable with it now. It will take a while for him to adjust there, but so far so good.

While searching for a place for my friend's mother to live, we decided to take a look at the Epworth assisted living facility.
My friend's family really like this region and has some family nearby, so it would be very convenient for them.
We were really impressed with how well the grounds were kept and how nice and accommodating the staff were.
The dining room, activity rooms and lounges were all nicely decorated.
The food was really nicely prepared - with options and choices for many tastes. It all looked and smelled really appetizing.
The residents are regularly encouraged to participate in exercise classes, to play group games and to take group excursions into the city for all kinds of fun activities.
The communal areas all seemed to have a nice level of energy and participation. We saw residents playing games, watching television and reading, while some were in the media room watching a movie.
Based upon what we saw, we are considering Epworth and would recommend that anyone interested check it out for their loved one.
