About This Community

Beechwood Assisted Living is a 15 bed, state licensed facility and has been in operating since 1994. We have fully renovated a 1900's (24 room) Victorian home to accommodate 15 seniors who enjoy the warmth and comforts of a residential setting in historical Catonsville of Baltimore County.

Our staff offers 24 hour supervision as well as the services of our ‘house’ physician in the event that a primary care physician is needed. We offer both private and semi-private rooms among 3 floors. An elevator and ADA approved bathroom provide access for those in need. Our family-style dining room and large living room promote companionship and a sense of family among friends. The property is situated on over a 1 acre lot with towering oak trees and various flowers and shrubbery to enjoy from the wrap-around porch. We encourage independence, activities and social outings as well as visits from friends, relatives and family members of our residents.

We've chosen the Beechwood Assisted Living and we toured there two weeks ago. I spoke with the director of the facility. He was very personable, I talked with the caregivers that they have there. They are very knowledgeable and personable. I just felt very comfortable with my mother-in-law being there. It was a home-like atmosphere and that's what we needed. We need it to be a smaller group for her because of her dementia. They had a first floor availability 'cause she can't do stairs very well. It's a maximum of fifteen residents. On the first floor they're all semi-private rooms, but they're very large. They have their individual closets, they have a chair, and they can have a TV if you wanna bring one, which we will be doing. They're very flexible for what you can bring as long as it fits the room. They have private rooms upstairs and there's an elevator that takes you up the second floor. They have a chair lift. It's perfect for the facilities that are accessible, which she needed, but it wasn't institutionalized. It felt like a home for her. They did have activities. A lady who came in did coordinated activities, but they could do things as a group or do things individually. They're in the middle of doing repairs and they're trying to keep the authenticity of the house too. The staff was so wonderful, patient, and kind. I've watched them interacting with the patients, even when they didn't realize I was watching, and they're very patient and willing to answer our questions even when we had to call back a couple of times.

My father in law has been at Beechwood Assisted Living since 2010. My husband and I feel that it is one of the best things that we have ever done for him. Very happy with our decision! We sleep much better at night knowing he is here.

I'm only giving one star because it won't allow me to give no stars. I called Beechwood because I am trying to find a home for my father. He is on a fixed income and he has dementia. I've been doing my best to take care of him myself but the time where I won't be able to do so any longer is near. I just asked a simple question. "Do you accept Medicaid?" I had no idea this would unleash a tirade! After explaining how little they would make on a person who had Medicaid he then went on to compare my actions to someone trying to by a Cadillac with only $5000. I don't care if he serves his residents caviar in golden plates, that doesn't give him the right to treat another human being that way!
