I visited both assisted living and memory care in Morningside House of Ellicott City. Everybody was polite. It was clean and beautiful. They had wonderful caregivers and the rooms were bright and big. They had multiple choices like companions and then single apartments. When I visited, the residents were playing games, had karaoke going, and were also playing Tic-tac golf. They had a daily calendar of activities posted on a whiteboard. They also have a rose garden with a small waterfall in it. It had a beautiful atmosphere. Everybody seemed to be happy. Everyone was saying hello. The gentleman that was walking us around was saying hello to the residents or the caregivers. He seemed to know everyone.

We've moved into Morningside House of Ellicott City. I like the cleanliness, efficiency, and the medical staff is all up to what I would have expected. There are the physical exercises and physical or occupational therapy that we've been involved in. The rooms are good and they're clean. It was a little tough getting used to downsizing from where we lived, but that was also part of the process and to be expected, so I can't complain. I can't fault anything.

I visited a place called Morningside House of Ellicott City. It felt like a nursing home. I was looking for a place that's a little bit more active for my grandmother. This place is like slow and quiet. The apartments were really small, and it wasn't as good value to me for the money. The staff were great; they're friendly. A couple of people I met there were friendly and accommodating. They didn't have many amenities from what I saw. It was a kind of small building, so it was a smaller community. There were not a lot of options, but it's assisted living so they may not need a lot. They had like one activity room where they did everything in, so you're either in that room or you're in your own apartment. It was like a multipurpose room. One thing they bragged about that is that it's more intimate or close-knit because it was smaller. But I didn't think it was intimate. It was a little dark in the building. It wasn't what I was looking for my grandmother. Their chapel was the same as their multipurpose room, so they had a church in that room, they did exercise in that room, and they did their activities in that room. They kind of have that one room for everything. They had medical staff on-site like 24 hours a day, so I like that. If anything happens, they were there.

The Morningside House of Ellicott City is in a nice community. It's a very elegant setting with a clean, modern, and updated look. The staff is friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. We were able to look at the menu and a list of activities. They were very accommodating because they said, "if you see anything missing from the food menu, or the list of activities, just let us know." It was a very healthy menu. They emphasized their pastries and baked goods because their chef is a professional pastry chef. They had a grand piano in the lobby, but they had no pianist to come in and play for the residents.

We found this place to be an amazing next home for our father. The facility had been updated and all of our interactions with staff have been amazing! We especially appreciated the time that Daniel (Sales) spent with us educating us on assisted living and helping to facilitate the assessment to move our father to their facility. Unfortunately, our father is beyond assisted living or we would have him at Morningside without hesitation!

I wasn't really pleased with my tour of Morningside House of Ellicott City. The appearance was OK. I just didn't feel like the staff gave me enough information and showed me around enough. It was clean, but it made me feel like it was more of an old people place. My mom wasn't ready for that, but it's a nice place. The staff member told us that we could come back in October, but she's never called me to see if anything happened.

My mom has been in Morningside House of Ellicott City since November. It is good. The people are sweet and nice. When I need help from the nurses, I have had very good help. The menus are nice and varied. My mom seems happy with the food. They have lots of craft activities, music, lectures, and a piano that my mom can use for her piano lessons. I don't think my mom goes to everything that she could, but what they have is very well done. Her studio is perfect for her. They have a nice tree and nice view outside. It is just the right distant from the elevator and to the cafeteria. It forces her to move around without it being too much.

I like Morningside House of Ellicott City because it specializes in memory and Alzheimer’s care. My mother-in-law needs memory care. The staff is doing a good job and seem caring. The room is a very generously sized studio. They were helpful in providing a bed, mattress and dresser for us. They offer many activities, but my mother-in-law is not doing any of them. It offers more than she is actually using, like music, games, visitors, and entertainers, but she is not participating. However, this facility is appropriate for her care.

Just a drive up to the place, and you feel comfortable. It was so clean, and there were people milling around outside. We walked in, and there was somebody there to get you started. The gentleman who gave us the tour, we called him up the last minute because we happened to be in the area -- and he had another appointment in 30 minutes -- but he took us in anyway and took us on a tour. It was really a nice place. I had no objections whatsoever to moving my mother there. As a matter of fact, I would probably do it if it wasn't for the fact that it is a little farther away, and the price is about the same. It had a different feel to it just because it was located differently and stuff. It had a nice dining area, and they even had a picture of my wife's chorus on the wall because my wife's chorus sings there a lot. Nice big hallways and nice rooms. I thought it was extremely comfortable. I would be more than happy to have my mother living there. I just don't have to move her there because there would be no big benefit to uproot her. We've had to move her so many times over the last several years when my father died, so we just don't want to uproot her unless there is a big advantage to it, but Morningside is really where we would have wanted her to be.

I do not live at this facility personally, however a very close relative of mine does, and she is extremely happy here. She has been there for several months now, and the nursing staff and faculty has the made transition very easy for the whole family. The surrounding town is beautiful, as is the building itself. I was impressed with the quality of the apartments. The family member that lives here always speaks very highly of the friendly staff, and while I wish she didn't have to live in a nursing home, it's for the best, and I don't think there's a better place around than Morningside. The food is great, they provide transportation for their clients when necessary, and they also provide many activities for their clients to get involved in. The most important thing for me is that they always have a nursing team on call in case of emergencies, and that makes the whole family feel at ease. I really do love this facility.

Morningside House in Ellicott City caters to those who need extra help in the activities of daily living, or those who are in the beginning or advanced stages of dementia. As the nephew of an aunt who has lived there for the last two years, I can attest that this is a very pleasant place for someone who needs help with dressing, bathing and medication management. Unlike nursing homes, Morningside is set up as a small apartment complex with individual apartments that can be furnished and decorated based on the occupant's tastes. So all of the residents living at Morningside can outfit their rooms with their own furniture and treasures. This really is my aunt's home. She has the best care from the nursing staff, all of whom care deeply about her and the rest of the residents. My aunt lives in a studio apartment, which is a large room with its own bathroom. There are also one-bedroom units and companion suites. At some point, my aunt may consider a companion suite, since the rent is a little cheaper if you share it with someone else.My aunt likes to play bingo, and that is one of the activities they have at Morningside several times a week. She also enjoys having her hair done at the salon, and asks for ice cream every night at dinner. Most importantly, her physical and medical needs are taken care of by the staff. When she first came there, it was a big adjustment, but now she can't imagine living anywhere else.My aunt looks forward to the bus trips. One afternoon they drove to Little Italy in Baltimore and had lunch at one of the restaurants. On another trip, they visited the local dinner theater during one of their dress rehearsals and were able to enjoy the show "for free" before it opened.Morningside has respite care available and also welcomes Hospice, in the event of a serious or terminal illness. It is a wonderful place to live out your golden days and I am happy that my aunt has found a place that brings her peace, good health and happiness. For those considering Morningside, keep in mind that it is in a very good area, close to the hospital and medical complexes in nearby Columbia, Maryland. It is also less than a half-hour from Baltimore and an hour from Washington, D.C.
