My brother-in-law was at Symphony Manor for almost 2 years. EVERYDAY he got extraordinary care at every level. This is a place where staff took the time to get to know him (He had had a stroke), found out his needs, and loved him. He made special relationships there and I will forever be grateful for the way that Symphony treated someone I loved.

I have never seen another such residence as nice. As the visual surroundings of a place are very important to me, I fell in love immediately with your spacious, gracious lobby and the courtyard beyond. On the 3rd floor I loved the balcony space, creatively designed for safety and a chance to experience the outdoors while still inside. And the ample room size held space for many mementos. So many things are arranged to help the caregiver deal with the stresses of illness. There is a real sense of community at Symphony Manor. The special occasion days (crab feast, Holiday party, Thanksgiving, etc) and the music programs in the lobby give one something to look forward to. Important, too, was that the memory care residents were integrated with the assisted living for programs and events. The most important ingredient in the Symphony Manor mix was the dedication of the staff. The Executive Director and Health and Wellness Director were always accessible when questions arose. The waitresses who served in the dining room did so with class, as if we were ordering in a restaurant. The chef and facility personnel were friendly and accommodating. Most important of all, of course, were the nurses and aides who helped everyday. They were unfailingly kind and patient, helping the residents keep their dignity when they could no longer attend to their most basic needs without help. I did not realize how creative staff had to be when working with memory loss patients. And not to forget to give kudos to the memory care coordinator and the lifestyle and leisure director. Their wonderful zest and enthusiasm brightened the day of many a resident and family member. When we were feeling worn out and discouraged their bouncy energy perked one up. Who would ever have guessed that reading the ingredients for a recipe in the newspaper could generate memories and responses in the listeners? But it did. So thank you all. Everyone works for the common good and gives meaning to the days of these residents.

Symphony Manor has a beautiful lobby and common rooms. The location in Roland Park is very convenient and there is a pretty view from the front porch. The admissions process was very straightforward. Amber and Stacy were delightful to work with. The staff has really tried to get to know my mom and make her feel comfortable and welcome. They are very aware of her memory deficits. Several members of the staff learned a lot about my mom’s past and our family. One night when she woke up after a bad dream, a member of the staff stayed with her in her room for half an hour and gave her reassurance. I would definitely refer other friends to look at Symphony Manor for their parents. The activities staff does a very good job trying to engage the residents and help them jog their memories. I am quite pleased with our decision to pick Symphony Manor for my mom.

A family member was a resident at Symphony Manor. Everything seemed great at first but after being there for some time noticed a very high turnover in staff, very inconsistent care, and a lack of awareness from management. We looked at many facilities and Symphony Manor says all the right things but doesn't live up to it. I would not recommend sending a loved one here unless there are no other options.

When we were looking for the best place in Baltimore for our mother, everyone - professionals and family friends recommended Symphony Manor and they were exactly right. It's a remarkable place. It happens to be lovely, with cheerful rooms, a welcoming atmosphere and good food - but what makes it unique is the remarkable staff. Everyone is so caring dealing with our mother at this new time of life. They also handle us, the family with patience and generosity.
It is not an easy decision to move a loved one out of their home, but Symphony Manor made us immediately feel it was the right choice.

When looking for a facility for my 85 year old mother, who had dementia and COPD I chose Symphony Manor for these reasons: the facility was located a mile from my home and I was there on a daily basis, the interior was bright, clean and small (69 residents) so she (and myself) became known by the staff quickly and the space was not overwhelming helping her to acclimate to her new surroundings. The facility offers multiple levels of care for residents who require memory care. The front door is supervised and must be operated by a keypad so residents cannot leave on their own, however, there is a lovely fenced-in garden and patio in the back where residents can safely relax outdoors. Educational offerings about dementia and senior care were provided for families. The facility was able to manage my mothers medical care and administer her medications. There was a Physical Therapist who would evaluate her needs...important since mom came needing a walker and eventually a wheelchair. The staff was welcoming and helpful and I immediately felt like we were "Home". Additionally, a pool table in the Bistro provided my teenagers with an activity that entertained my mother as well.
The resident rooms are lovely with spacious and safe bathrooms. The nurses and caregivers are responsive and compassionate. There are several activity directors who keep residents occupied with fun things to do both in facility as well as several weekly trips to movies and city rides. Residents are not left to sit alone in their room, they are retrieved by staff for activities and meal times as many are there for memory care and cannot manage a routine on their own. Some of the activities my mother loved were the weekly non denominational prayer service, (there is a chapel and the facility offers a traditional Sunday service) Jewelry making, the daily "happy hour" in the bistro at 4 pm., watching the finches in the glass cages in the lobby, Sunday afternoon concerts performed in the lobby by the Peabody students, and going out on the bus to the BSO or just to get ice cream. Most importantly, every staff member knew my mom by her name and she loved having the "sense of community" that Symphony provided.
During the two years my mom was here, I was involved in every aspect of her hands on care. I found the nurses and executive management to be responsive and professional. My mother recently passed away while on hospice which was managed in-facility as Symphony has a close partnership with Gilchrist allowing residents to remain at Symphony for the remainder of their life. The Symphony Physician is also a Gilchrist physician.
I was very pleased with our experience at Symphony and although my mother is no longer there, I still stop by to visit with staff and residents.

We had a horrible experience here. Call bells go unanswered for 90 minutes regularly. Residents call out for help and don't receive any. If you go out looking for someone to help, you'll often find the halls empty. Don't be fooled by the pretty building. What matters is the staff, and here, they are all but absent.

I looked at Symphony Manor, and I thought it was wonderful. It is a smaller place, and they have about 60 residents. The facility is for both independent and assisted living. I actually ended up placing my mother there. One thing I like is that this place is actually in my backyard. It is close enough so that I can walk across the street and go there. The staff is very attentive and very caring. They seem to know everybody by name. I'm there often, and I have to admit that I have never seen any of the staff disrespect or lose their patience with any of their residents there. My mother's apartment is bigger than the one that she was in before. It has a little kitchenette, two closets, and her own bathroom. She has plenty of closet space, and the bathroom is really big.

My family had visited several Assisted Living facilities but we all agreed Symphony Manor was by far the best choice for our mom. The facility itself is bright and beautiful and the staff is always friendly and smiling. Mom has made some great new friends and enjoys so many of the activities throughout the day and evening. It took a little time for Mom to transition and adjust but all the staff made sure she felt welcome and cared for. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility to others.

we searched many facilities and made the choice to move my mother to symphony manor. I was overwhelmed with the support that the staff gave my mother and me from the first day. The staff is young, but very caring and get to know each resident. I highly recommend symphony manor.

My parents chose Symphony Manor for themselves. They chose it because it was brand new and it looked nice and they have white tablecloths, basically. It was a mixed experience. They had a nurse that I liked a lot, I talked to her almost every day, but she was over worked. They were under-staffed. I was not happy with their psychiatrist, because with dementia patients you run into a lot of issues. He was young and inexperienced. I was not particularly happy with the director. There were some staff that were good; some were not very good. The rooms were very nice, bright, and comfortable. You could have your furniture or they provide furniture. They have double rooms, which we started them out in together and then separated them eventually because they have started to forget each other.
