I do not recommend this place. Communication and transparency is just horrible and unacceptable. My mother has lived here 4 years (just recently into their memory care) and I feel very unwelcome by staff (newer staff) as turnover is very high. Some are just plain rude. Senior director ignored my message of concern and to speak with him. And they refused accountability/ liability for something a nurse broke in mother's home. She deserves better, and so do I, for her., we are very close, I don't feel she's getting good care. The studio's are very small, especially those in memory care, compared to the studio's in the assisted living units. Memory care is sectioned off/locked from the rest of the building, it feels like a locked up environment. I am checking into a better facility for her.

We went to the Elder Homestead. They have studios that were way, way too small. It was a teeny, tiny kitchenette area, and there was one closet that was very narrow to the point where you would even wonder if hangers would fit. There were absolutely no other places for bedding, towels, or extra clothing. There was enough room for a bed and a dresser. I have a lift chair; it could be crammed in there, but that would be it. I was never told anything about any activities; I assumed they had them. It looks like a nursing home. Everybody goes out and dines outside of their own room, but it was only 209 square feet, she said, which doesn't give you much space for living. I would not want to be out in the common areas all the time. That room would be very depressing, as small as it was. There was no space. I was shown two very large rooms where they do bingo, church services, birthday celebrations, and that kind of stuff. They do have a large porch area and a small backyard where somebody had come out and planted flowers. It was very pleasant looking, and it was fairly updated, but the room was just so tiny it didn't feel homey. It felt more like a nursing home room.

Elder Homestead has studio-type rooms with big handicap showers and baths. The staff and meals are very good. They have all kinds of stretching and moving activities, singing, and board games. The place feels very homey.
