I toured the Vista Prairie at River Heights. It was too large, too big, too many floors. It was just too large a building. There were a lot of things that people could do there. I knew my cousin wasn't going to do anything there but sit in her room. I knew she would not be leaving her room, so I didn't get to see all the different things. The room was fine. It was just a one-room place for her to be. But they only had the third floor or something. She would never have found her way around anywhere if she went out of her room and it would be a hardship to go visit her because it was so laid out -- you take the elevator up to here and go down there and go to this hallway and that hallway. It was just too big. The staff was very good. He was very informative and very nice.

I visited Vista Prairie at River Heights. I was very satisfied with the actual tour guide. He gave us a complete and comprehensive tour. We got to see the cafeteria and a couple of living quarters, along with a few of the other aspects of the building. The rooms and the cleanliness of the building were satisfactory. They were on par with some of the other communities that I had visited. They did offer some minor activities. They had a planting activity for the outdoor garden. They had bingo and a game room. The amenities were maybe not as many as some of the other facilities. They did have people who would come in and do hair care. They did outdoor tours, went to farmers' markets, and did some of the outside activities. But they didn't necessarily have a set game room, art room, or an exercise room. They offer three meals a day. I did not get a chance to taste it, but I did get a look at a month-long menu that they had. They tried desperately. They do their own in-house cooking, which was good. The menu was quite varied, for the month. If patients or people who were in the care community didn't enjoy what was actually on the menu, they could order one or two other items that were just staples that were there.

I visited Vista Prairie at River Heights. I thought the apartments are pretty spacious and the whole place feels spacious, with lots of free space so it's not crowded. I thought that was good. It's really quiet which is good for a lot of people, but for my husband, it's a little too quiet. They said they have activities but I didn't see any going on. They showed me both assisted living and memory care. It's located in a very residential area so it's not close to amenities.
