Respite Care

  • Adagio Manor also provides respite care. Respite care is a type of short-term care that can be for one day, a weekend, or a two-week vacation. During this time, caregivers feel at ease taking time away because they know their loved one is being cared for in a safe environment.

For our family, finding Adagio was the answer to a prayer! Our mom was in the end stages of vascular dementia and under hospice/palliative care when we moved her from a well-known (but insufficient for her needs) top-of-the-line Memory Care facility into the cozy and cosseting Adagio HOME, where she would comfortably spend the final four months of her life. For these four months at Adagio, mom was supported with 24/7 care and supervision, ensuring her safety (as she had shown some tendency towards falling, especially from her bed, at night) and providing complete, assiduously-administered medical care (in close coordination with mom's hospice team). At Adagio, our mom was cared for and nurtured and loved and fed and clothed and bathed within the confines of the most charming, cozy and airy rambler home, in safe and lovely Golden Valley. Mom's bedroom at Adagio was spacious and infinitely inviting, and she was always in close proximity to caregivers and other residents (3 to 4, at that time), who provided company, stimulation, support/assistance during the communal mealtimes, individualized meal prep, and very often and perhaps most importantly, just the safe and COMPANIONABLE QUIET, SERENITY, and SECURITY she cherished. Adagio welcomed our family to visit, at any and all times, and I savored the innumerable, long and lazy afternoons with my mom, as we sat together in a sunbeam, lingering over meals and watching the seasons change, in the lovely dining room, looking out the huge picture window onto the back patio and gardens, all lovingly attended. During her final days, mom was constantly supervised and wrapped in loving arms; our family could not have conceived of a more loving, attentive, competent, and supportive environment for mom in which to make her final life's passage. While recognizing that care needs for our aging loved ones are highly individualized and changeable, I wish to underscore that for OUR family, the move from the high-end Memory Care facility (:lovely for less needy/fragile seniors, but wholly inappropriate/inadequate for us) into her loving Adagio home, was nothing short of life-changing--and SO life-affirming! The previous facility had been unable to provide any consistent oversight of mom or to adequately protect her safety: what we had there was essentially a very nice room in a gorgeous facility and access to meals, but limited care, company, or oversight. To ensure mom's safety and companionship during the day/night, we had been forced to hire additional 24/7 nursing care, at a staggering added expense. Even with the additional nursing-aide supervision, however, mom had experienced at the first facility nowhere near the loving, attentive support, peaceful comfort, and rich quality of life she found every day at Adagio. For a senior in need of full, 24/7 memory and/or nursing home care and companionship in a loving and supportive home environment, I can imagine no place more perfectly suited than Adagio. The night we moved our dear mother from her previous facility into her new (and final) Adagio home, I slept the blissful sleep of the saved. And I'm convinced that for her final 4 months on this earth, so did she. Lovingly submitted, LL

This facility is much more than Assisted Living. If you are looking for a caring, homelike environment for the entire duration of a loved one's journey with dementia or Alzheimers, they provide loving, hands-on care through the whole process. I would consider them the equivalent of what is being called Memory Care and nursing home care in a much more intimate setting.

If you are facing the gut-wrenching prospect of moving your loved one from home to an Assisted Living facility - let me recommend Adagio Manor in Golden Valley. It is a one-story ranch type home (with 24-hour loving care) on a residential street in an adjacent Minneapolis suburb. You can even "try it out" on a short-term basis of only a few days if you wish. That is what our family did and we found a wonderful setting for my wife (77 years old with advanced Alzheimer's). Already receiving "Hospice and Palliative Care" services before entry - she stopped losing weight and graduated out of "Hospice" 6 months later after moving her to Adagio Manor. Give Adagio Manor a try if you desire a home style setting with a beautiful screened porch, outdoor deck and patio with fenced-in yard. Our family did and we were well pleased. Cordially, Dave S. Adagio is a very warm, inviting home, formerly a single family home, that was renovated for assisted living for seniors. This is not a drive-by! The doors are all widened for wheelchairs and walkers, and it has all hardwood floors except the kitchen, which is acrylic tile, and there is a ramp for the garage entry. Right now there are 2 people living there, with 24-hour care. I was impressed with their staff, cleanliness, and peacefulness there. Definitely a place like home.

You definately will want to take a tour of Adagio. It is a wonderful environment, feels like home, great staff and the dining experience will far exceed your typical busy home experience. Beautifully dining room with home cooked meals. It's a nice neighborhood and home has a back yard patio with visiting wildlife giving the residents a nice place to grab some fresh air.
