My mom is a resident of New Perspective Senior Living Mahtomedi. She is in a cottage and capacity is usually about 18 residents, but right now, they have about half that many. And she's 5 miles from me. So far, it's going well. She moved in June. It's a really nice environment, the staff knows the residents. They have excellent food, fresh and prepared there. They have a nurse on site of course all day, and on call at night. I've been able to work very closely with the executive director there. She has 2 cottages, and the nurse, so that has been helpful. Mom had some health issues, so they are working with me on that.
I haven't tried the food, but everyone tells me it's very good. The dining room is beautiful, has an open kitchen, there's a fire place. Well, it's an open area, the kitchen, the dining, and the common area, all sort of flows. They have a fire place in the common area, they have a sun porch, sort of a garden like area. My mom is in a corner room, so she has 2 windows. Because my mom thinks that she's going home any day, we haven't brought a lot of her things with her. It's very nice. The activity has been difficult with the Covid.
It's so small, that it's not really specifically divided that way. All of the residents are amongst one another. It's not like there's a separate wing, and it's congregate dining even with the Covid, because I don't think there's staff that they would not be able to monitor all of the memory care people for choking and what not.
So they want to watch all of their residents, they wanna be there while all the residents eat. So it's congregate dining, and the staff eats with them, which is nice. My mother likes all of the staff, she said they're really nice. They redirect her, that's about it. It's a matter of levels of care, I don't think there's a fine line between their assisted living and their memory care. They just have various levels dependent on what she needs. She needs help with her shower just to make sure she doesn't fall. And she needs just a reminder of time and to do things. It's assisted living, but their staff is trained in memory care. They're required to have some training in memory care.

My Mom has been a resident for almost 2 years, I have been very impressed with the care given to her. The Health Aids and the Nurse staff are so caring. I alway get a reply very timely with any questions or concerns.
My Mom's room is very nice and perfectly sized for her needs. It is kept clean and tidy for her. Large windows to look at the beautiful yard that is fenced and very secure for sunny days outside.
They do crafts and activities all of the time. I love that they have a schedule so I can see what activities and outings they are doing..
I can't imagine my Mom any place else. She would have picked New Perspective-Mahtomedi if I hadn't for her.

Cottage Style memory care facility. 2 houses joined by large secure back yard with gardens and walking paths.Screened porch and lovely shared central living spaces. Private and semi-private bedrooms. Each home houses 15 residents. Very friendly and involved staff. Feels more like a home than an institution. Daily activities and many special events that involve families. Excellent director and nursing staff that will communicate with families and strive to individualize care and make residents fell loved and secure
