I had a short tour of Cogir of Northgate, and it seemed like the people were very pleasant when I came in the door. A slight downside was that it is a rehabilitated apartment house. So, it's kind of like a hotel, but the people were really nice, and the rooms seemed pretty good sized for the price. It met my criteria, and they have all the things you expect from an assisted living. They have nurses, medical things, and shopping close by. Their dining area was very nice. It's roomy, and it looked pleasant. The apartments were either a studio or a one-bedroom. The one-bedroom was around 600 square feet, and it was adequate for one person. Ashley was the person who gave us the tour, and she was pleasant, knowledgeable, and up on the features they're selling. They actually presented everything in a good light. They have some social activities, too, like playing cards, parties, and transportation to medical facilities, which are fairly close.

The food at Brookdale Northgate was excellent. They had a good variety of food. The staff was not so caring, though. They said they could take care of people with dementia but they kicked mom out because they could not handle it. The rooms and apartments are of good sizes but it’s definitely not a place for somebody with dementia. They’re just not equipped for it. It’s an old building but relatively clean. They’ve got activities for the residents down in the front hallway which I like because the residents can come down and see other people all day long and they can have very good interaction with the other residents at the facility. But the staff is not equipped to take care of all the residents that they have there. They do not have very good security either because they told mom to go down and walk around, and she got lost. Good thing a lovely real estate man found her and she knew her home phone number so this man brought her back to our house. It was horrible!
