The rooms at Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre were a little older. I loved it was a very busy place, and there were lots of different activities. There were some women playing games, and people chatting on the patio. They just seemed very happy. The staff we met was wonderful. Their dining room is open all day. If you wanted to go for an afternoon snack, you could. It wasn't prohibited to eat only the 1 to 3 meals there. It was nice. We actually had a meal there, and it was good. They also have another level of care that the other ones didn't offer. It's a level between assisted living and memory care called transitional care, and I really liked that.

Of the places I've visited, Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre was my favorite. Its location to where I live, to a lot of the services, and just the size, seemed to be a better fit for my mom. There was just a certain energy when I went in that I really liked. I liked that on their second floor they had a patio area where residents could bring their own flower pots and do gardening, which is something my mom enjoys. I think that was one of the key things, and the location was really good. There are a lot of the amenities, as far as taking members to appointments, grocery stores, and activities. A lot of the different locations were fairly similar, but I really liked the second floor patio where members could garden. They do assisted living as well as memory care, which is really important. The person who gave the tour was very helpful. It was my first tour and probably my longest tour. She took me to several different rooms and locations on different sides of the building, and different floors, so that was very helpful. As far as the size of the rooms, I would say they're all pretty comparable with each of the other locations.

My mother has lived at MG Renton for over 5 years. During that time she has transitioned from being fully independent to needing quite a bit of assistance with tasks of daily living. Throughout all the staff has been very caring and helpful. When things do come up, they are very responsive to my questions and concerns. It's a very welcoming place and I really feel that all the staff have the welfare of residents at the forefront of their approach.

I toured Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre. It was super nice but they didn't have memory care; they only provide assisted living. They have excellent staff members. The room I saw there was great, and it's probably better than the room my relatives are getting at another community. I toured on a Saturday, and they were having a pre-Easter Sunday with all the families visiting there. The staff members interact really great with everyone. Other than not having memory care, it would have been THE place to go. I didn't have a meal during the tour, but they brought over brunch one time, which was nice. They're excellent people.

We were able to had a tour at Merrill Gardens, and we saw that the place was kind of run down a little bit although the building itself and the rooms were very nice. They had an inner courtyard which was nice. They had good food as we were able to eat lunch there.

Merrill Gardens was the nicest place we visited. It is A-1, but expensive, with $5000 upfront fee to reserve an apartment, and that is not refundable. Their food was good, their amenities were great, and it's a brand-new building, but it is kind of out of sight for a lot of people. The studio at over $2000 and a 1-bedroom at over $3000 are a lot. The staff was great, they seated us for lunch and came back and check to make sure everything was fine, they brought us all the lease information, and that was great. They showed us what was available, the dining area was very nice, the service was quick, and overall it was an enjoyable experience.

My mom lives in Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre. There is nothing wrong with this community at all. It is just the cost is getting prohibitive. It’s basically independent, living but they can help with medication if you need it.

I’m now on the waiting list of Merrill Gardens at Renton. It has everything I want, and it is in Renton; my son lives a mile away. There’s a process that they put you through of which I’m still in the middle. I go to church in Burien, and if I went into Merrill Gardens, I could walk there. It is not just a retirement center; it has assisted living, so if I get to the point where I need assistance, they’re there, and I won’t have to change facilities. I had lunch there, met a number of people, and have been back three times now. One of the church members is on the staff, but I found that out after I applied. There are walking paths close by, and I’m right downtown in Renton, so I can walk around town. It has a lot of advantages, as far as I’m concerned.

I was in Merrill Gardens for about 6 weeks. I didn’t care for it. It’s regimented; it’s a bit pricey too. You feel like you’re in a sanitarium of some sort even though it’s a nice place. It’s right in the middle of downtown, and at night, the ambulance goes by and the traffic is noisy. It is right next to a bus depot that they put on one of the main streets, and it’s really loud. I have a friend that lives there, and she doesn’t care for it either. They fix what they want to fix, and they fix you your big meal at noon. If you need to go to a doctor’s appointment, they have cars that take you, and they charge $40 an hour or so.

Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre was very nice. Everything was wonderful. It was a newer site. They just opened for residency. The environment was very nice. It was like walking into a cruise boat. Everything was new and beautiful. I also saw the dining room with white linen tablecloth and people being waited on. They didn't have to get their food. There was a little salad buffet area which was definitely a step up. It was very nice in there. I have seen a lot of social people there. Right at the kitty-corner from there is the Renton Senior Center, so it is very convenient for the seniors to walk over there for activities. Everything I had seen was a plus. The location was great. The only bad thing is that they didn't have what we were looking for. They didn't have a daycare.

Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre is in central and downtown Renton so the location is close to the river. As far as the location, it may be easy for an elderly person to walk through the banks. You get to and from the grocery store being right downtown. It's a hotel, resort-type atmosphere. They have an open-ended lunch menu with an open-ended time so you don't need to go from 4pm-5pm to catch dinner. You can go anytime in the evening up until they close their dining area and order off the menu from whatever they have and whatever you want which is very different than other facilities. The most attractive feature for my parents is that they have some people they know there.

The staff at Merrill Gardens were very helpful and had been great. The rooms are excellent. The menu and food were very good. They took the residents to casinos, shows, trips, movies, entertainment, etc. They had something going on for the people everyday. However, the rate was too expensive for me.
